Wattles are made of straw, wood chips, or other natural fiber rolled into tubular form and netted.  Wattles, properly trenched and staked, slow flow velocity, spread runoff as sheet flow, and remove sediments.  Most wattles, both content and netting, are biodegradable and may be left in place.
